Disney Devotions 004 – Hollywood Studios

The Greatest Story Ever Told
A Family Devotion for Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Read Hollywood Studios’ opening day dedication:

The World you have entered was created by The Walt Disney Company and is dedicated to Hollywood—not a place on a map, but a state of mind that exists wherever people dream and wonder and imagine, a place where illusion and reality are fused by technological magic. We welcome you to a Hollywood that never was—and always will be. —Michael Eisner, May 1, 1989

Don’t you just love a good movie? Who can resist the illusions, the imagination, the music & the special effects? There’s love stories, action heroes, hilarious gags, good guys, bad guys, and of course, happy endings. Today, the magic of the movies is on the menu at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Discussion Question: Name your top 3 favorite movies. What do you think makes great movies so good?

Great movies like Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Toy Story, and The Wizard of Oz all share some of the same basic ingredients. There’s always a hero, a villain, a battle to fight, and a prize to be won.

Discussion Question: How are the stories in great movies similar to the story God tells in the Bible?

We love watching these stories because they reflect our own story, “The Great Story” that God is telling through His Word and in our lives today. Here’s a movie maker’s look at the epic story God has been telling since He created the world.

The Hero – God is the hero, the ultimate “good guy” in His own story. He created a world and gave it to humankind to enjoy with Him.

Genesis 1:31 – God saw all that he had made, and it was very good.

The Villain – The Devil is the enemy. He came to destroy the good God created, especially His most cherished creations, you and me.

John 10:10a – The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy.

The Battle to Fight – God fought His battle in a surprising way. He sent His son to die for us so that we would be saved from the villain’s lies.

1 John 3:8b – “The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.”

The Prize to Be Won – God’s reward for winning the battle is that we become His children, safe in His arms.

John 3:16 – For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life..

The Happy Ending – There truly is a “happily ever after” as God, the Hero, turns all wrongs to right in a Kingdom that lasts forever.

Revelation 20:5a – And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.

So with every great story you see in the movies, remember that it all starts with God’s story.

Prayer: Dear God, It’s amazing to see how the stories we like to watch at the movies reflect the true story You tell us in your Word, the Bible. Although that story is yet to be filmed, we ask that you will premiere it in our hearts every day as we draw closer and closer to you. Amen
